Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel SyndromeCarpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition that causes numbness, tingling, weakness and pain in your hands due to pressure on the median nerve of your wrist. The condition starts gradually and becomes very painful during night. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome also affects thumbs and fingers. Exercises and rest help to relieve the symptoms of Carpal syndrome.

Symptoms and Causes

Any condition that causes excessive pressure on the wrist may cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Pregnancy, obesity, arthritis, hypothyroidism, trauma and diabetes are the common conditions that are related to carpal tunnel syndrome. The condition may also be caused by tendon inflammation resulting from constant work.

Some of the symptoms of the syndrome include:

  • Numbness or tingling in hands and fingers
  • Weakness in hands
  • Pain in palms and fingers
  • Pain in wrist and elbow
  • Stiffness in the fingers when awake

Some women suffering from the syndrome have been found to be vitamin B6 deficiency. Researchers claim that lower levels of vitamin B6 are associated with a higher prevalence of carpal tunnel symptoms. It is thus best to increase intake of vitamin B in your diet to reduce carpal tunnel syndrome.
